BACOLOD City – Four private hospitals here and one government-owned committed to boost their bed capacity for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) suspected and confirmed cases.
They made the commitment during a consultative meeting with Dr. Marlyn Convocar, director of the Department of Health (DOH) Region 6.
According to Cong. Greg Gasataya, these health institutions pledged to increase their COVID-19 bed capacity up to 80 percent. These were the following:
* Bacolod Adventist Medical Center – from 21 to 27
* Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital – from 60 to 97
* Riverside Medical Center – from 22 to 53
* South Bacolod General Hospital – 5 to 17
* The Doctors’ Hospital – 33 to 34.
Gasataya earlier sought help from DOH-6 after learning that hospitals in this city and even in Negros Occidental already reached their beds’ full capacity for COVID-19 patients and thus could no longer accept new cases.
Convocar, for her part, said DOH-6 will send 14 nurses to augment the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital.
“In case there’s surge in patients in private hospitals, they can also utilize them,” she added.
The DOH-6 will also conduct a regular meeting with the hospitals here to monitor the situation./PN
