ILOILO – Five community ports in some islands in northern Iloilo will be constructed in 2018.

These community ports will be in Polopiña and Tambaliza islands in Concepcion town; and Calagnaan, Gigantes Sur and Gigantes Norte islands in Carles town.

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) will fund and implement the projects

Unlike big and main ports, however, community ports will only cost from P15 to P25 million, said Cong. Raul Tupas of the 5th District.

Concepcion and Carles are in Tupas’ district.

“These projects support the eco-tourism programs of Concepcion and Carles,” said Tupas.

He also stressed that the community ports will be a big help to the people of the islands because these are where small bancas will dock, especially when they are bringing tourists in.

Aside from the community ports, the port of Bancal in Carles will also undergo rehabilitation with a budget of P40 million.

The total budget for the community ports and the rehabilitation will be around P210 million, according to the congressman. (PNA)
