5 towns in Aklan remain in ASF red zones

KALIBO, Aklan – Five towns in the province of Aklan remain classified as red zones for African Swine Fever (ASF).

The latest report of the Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI) as of January 10, 2025 showed that hog farms in the municipalities of Kalibo, Lezo, Ibajay, Tangalan, and Libacao are infected by the swine disease.

There are 11 towns classified as pink or buffer zones in the latest ASF watch, which are adjacent to infected areas. They are the municipalities of Batan, Altavas, Balete, Banga, Makato, Numancia, Malay, New Washington, Malinao, Madalag, and Nabas.

Buruanga is the only town under yellow or surveillance zone based on the memorandum issued by BAI, and in accordance with the Amended National ASF Zoning and Movement Plan (DA Administrative Circular No. 2, series of 2022).

In Antique, the pink zones are the municipalities of Belison, Hamtic, Tobias Fornier, San Jose, Patnongon, San Remigio, and Sibalom.

The towns in dark green zones or areas free from ASF are Tibiao, Sebaste, Barbaza, Libertad, Pandan, Caluya, and Culasi.

Meanwhile, nine municipalities in Capiz – Pontevedra, Panay, Panitan, Sigma, Tapaz, Dumalag, Pilar, Sapi-an, and Ivisan – remain in red zones.

As of January 10, 460 cities and municipalities in the country were upgraded from red to pink zone./PN
