NEW WASHINGTON, Aklan – Within seven months of training, a total of 512 Aklanons from remote barangays graduated at the Monfort Technical Institute on March 17 under the Barangay Kasanayan para sa Kabuhayan at Kapayapaan (BKKK) program of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda).
The above beneficiaries of the scholarship program hurdled construction-related courses like welding, carpentry, pipe fitting, house painting, masonry, and plumbing, among others.
The idea of extending Tesda’s delivery of its services to the remote rural areas in the countryside via BKKK shaped up upon the assumption into office of Secretary Guiling “Gene” A. Mamondiong.
The program sees to it that every “Juan” in every remote barangay has access to Tesda’s skills trainings aimed at alleviating his living condition.
BKKK concretizes cooperation between the barangays and Tesda. For the first time, the barangay as a basic local government unit has been empowered to recommend beneficiaries of the free technical skills trainings.
Under the first modality, the barangay chairman of each participating barangay is empowered to recommend BKKK grantees through a list submitted to Tesda offices in the provinces. The second affords applicants the alternative to register online. Third, they could be walk-in clients. Not a single applicant will be denied./PN
