52 gov’t agencies join social services caravan

ILOILO City – A total of 52 national government agencies joined the recent regionwide social services caravan spearheaded by the Office of the Ombudsman.

The government agencies brought with them various free services and programs such as jobs fair, livelihood fair, scholarships, legal services, medical and dental missions.

The caravan’s aim was to bring government services closer to the people, said Ombudsman acting director for Region 6 Philip Camiguing.

The caravan of social services served from 5,000 to 8,000 people from the host town Bingawan and other neighboring towns in Iloilo province.

On May 28 to 29, 2014 Ombudsman’s caravan of services was held in Maayon, Capiz. Around 34, 000 individuals were served.

Depressed areas in the region were the priority of the caravan.

For the part of Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Region 6, it released P1.1 million to 731 household beneficiaries of Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino program (4Ps) and P608,ooo to 294 social pensioners during the one-day event in Bingawan.

For social pension, a total of P113,500 were released for 50 social pensioners of Bingawan; P229,500 for 109 beneficiaries of Tapaz, Capiz; P101,500 for 59 beneficiaries from Dumalag, Capiz; and P163,500 for 76 beneficiaries in Jamindan, Capiz./PN
