HAMTIC, Antique – So far, 55 frontliners and senior citizens here have been vaccinated against coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

The frontliners included personnel of Barangay Health Emergency Response Teams (BHERTs), contact tracers and emergency responders.

Municipal Health Office (MHO) personnel administered the vaccine CoronaVac of China.

According to Mayor Julie Pacificador, the 55 recipients of the vaccine were assessed prior to inoculation.

He urged more senior citizens of Hamtic to register for the free vaccination.

“Palihog makipag-angot dayon sa aton Rural Health Unit ukon sa aton BHERTs. Indi kamo magkabalaka. May proper assessment kag monitoring…para sa inyo kaaraydan,” said Pacificador.

The mayor himself received his first dose of CoronaVac on April 27. He hoped his example would encourage more people to also have themselves inoculated.

“Magsarig sa aton bakuna. Indi kamo magkahadlok kay dya makabulig kanaton para sa pagbalik sa mayad nga pagpangabuhi kag pag-uswag kang aton banwa,” said Pacificador.

The most common symptoms of COVID-19 are fever, tiredness, and dry cough.

Some patients may have aches and pains, nasal congestion, runny nose, sore throat or diarrhea. These symptoms are usually mild and begin gradually. Some people become infected but don’t develop any symptoms and don’t feel unwell.

Most people (about 80 percent) recover from the disease without needing special treatment, according to the World Health Organization.

Older people, and those with underlying medical problems like high blood pressure, heart problems or diabetes, are more likely to develop serious illness./PN
