ILOILO City – Fifty-six personnel of the Iloilo City District Jail in Barangay Ungka, Jaro district passed a “surprise” drug test.
The unscheduled test was conducted on Oct. 11.
The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Region 6 administered it, according to warden Jail Superintendent Mary Chanettee Espartero.
“I called the jail personnel for a meeting. When they reached the office, they were told there was going to be a drug test right there and then,” said Espartero.
The drug test aimed to show to people that officers of the Iloilo City District Jail were not into illegal drugs and the jail facility was drug-free, she stressed.
Espartero warned her personnel to never engage in illegal drugs.
“I will not hesitate to file charges against those involved in illegal drugs,” she stressed.
For his part, PDEA Region 6 director Alex Tablate said “surprise” drug tests in jail facilities would be sustained./PN
