FIFTY-SIX schools are set to compete in the inaugural edition of the Province of Iloilo Interschool Sports Competition, which opens Nov. 10 at the City of Passi Arena in the component city of Passi.
Public and private schools will play in three sporting events – basketball, volleyball and football – Provincial Sports Development Officer Ray Cabarles told Panay News.
There are 24 high school teams competing in basketball, six elementary teams and 12 high school teams in football, and 10 teams each in elementary boys and girls volleyball.
To make the matches faster, Cabarles said, the competing teams were divided into four zones based on the location of the schools. Each zone will have a two-day elimination round for all three sports.
Schools under Zone 4 (Passi, San Dionisio, Barotac Viejo, and Banate) will open things up on Nov. 10 and 11, followed by Zone 1 (Oton, Tigbauan, Guimbal, Miagao, and Alimodian) on Nov. 17 and 18.
Zone 2 (Leon, Pavia, Santa Barbara, Leganes, Zarraga, New Lucena, and Cabatuan) and Zone 3 (Pototan, Janiuay, Lambunao, Calinog, and Bingawan) will play their eliminations on Nov. 24 and 25.
Surviving teams from each zone will advance to the semifinal round, which will be held on Dec. 1 at the Iloilo Sports Complex in Iloilo City. Final matches will be on the next day at the same venue./PN
