6 Antique fishermen rescued off Romblon

San Jose, Antique – Six fishermen from Barangay Maybato North in this capital were rescued after their boat sank off the waters of Odiongan town in Romblon at the height of typhoon “Ursula’s” onslaught.     

They were boat captain Julius Escoril, 32, and crew members Eduardo Aguilar, 33, Jeson Cambongga, 19, Agustin Del Rosario, 18, and a 16-year-old minor, according to the Odiongan Public Information Office (PIO). While their companion, 19-year-old Ruben Floro, was rescued off the waters of Barangay Agpudlus, San Andres, Romblon.    

The fishermen came from Sibuyan Island who sought refuge in Boracay Island, Malay, Aklan to avoid the onslaught of typhoon “Ursula,” the Odiongan PIO said. They chose to go home to Antique but the strong waves sank their fishing boat Jarsking around 8 a.m. on Dec. 25.

The victims received medical treatment at the Romblon Provincial Hospital.

Meanwhile, the Odiongan Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office has already coordinated with the local government unit of San Jose and Barangay Maybato North officials to bring the victims home./PN
