But a companion remained missing – a certain Pedring, 42.

According to PCG, motorboat JWJ with seven fishermen from Barangay Navotas, Balayan, Batangas set out to sea on July 15. They intended to fish in Palawan.

Some 10 nautical miles from North Coron, Palawan, however, big waves and strong winds rocked the boat until its left outrigger got broken.

For six days the fishermen held on to their broken boat and hoped that some boats would pass by and help them.

Pedring allegedly panicked, jumped into the water and was never seen again.

The six fishermen survivors were taken to the municipal health unit of Caluya for medical assistance./PN
