6 Iloilo elected officials with threats get police security

ILOILO – Six elected officials in this province who have life threats were provided with police security by the Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO)

There is no serious threat on the said officials but based on their assessment, their functions as local chief executives (LCEs) are at risk, said IPPO director, Police Colonel Ronaldo Palomo.

He explained, in carrying out their functions and responsibilities, it is inevitable that they may upset someone.

“Along the way, in the performance of their duty may ara gid sila kon kis-a nga medyo masalapay, natural lang na gid na sa LCEs,” explained Palomo.

The six elected officials are composed of mayors, vice mayors, and congressman from the third, second and fourth districts.

The IPPO director said police security was provided to each LCE, except for the congressman who already had an approval from Philippine National Police (PNP) chief General Rodolfo Azurin Jr. for police security.

Each LCE was given two police security for 15 days which started last week and after 15 days, they need to formally request from no less than the PNP chief for their police security.

The conduct of threat assessment of each locality and their respective LCE was ordered by Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. following the assassination of Negros Oriental governor Roel Degamo on March 4.

“Gusto naton regularly mahatagan systematic update ang aton local officials sa security situation sang ila banwa, sang probinsya kag sa ila personal,” said Defensor.

He added security-related information gathered through intelligence work should be vetted./PN
