BACOLOD City – Six of the 10 top tourist destinations in Western Visayas are found in Negros Occidental, data presented to the provincial government during the 3rd Quarter Negros Occidental Tourism Officer’s Meeting showed.
The meeting was held at the Provincial Capitol Building on Monday.
Sipaway Island in San Carlos City was the top destination in the region with 75,685 visitors in 2021, data presented by Tim Ticar, senior tourism officer at the Department of Tourism in Western Visayas, showed.
Second on the list was the Bantug Lake Ranch Place in Barangay Alangilan, Bacolod City (55,567 visitors in 2021).
The Campuestohan Highland Resort in Talisay City, meanwhile, was No. 4 with 41,362 visitors followed by the Otirasor Beach Resort in Himamaylan City with 38,247 visitors; The Ruins in Talisay City with 27,184 visitors; and the Lakawon Island Resort in Cadiz City with 24,947 visitors.
Negros Occidental governor Eugenio Jose Lacson said the prospects for recovery in travel and tourism are improving.
He credited the recovery of the local the tourism sector to the combination of mass vaccinations against coronavirus disease 2019 and the easing of travel restrictions nationwide./PN
