MANILA – Six Western Visayas swimmers are set to banner the Philippine Swimming League (PSL) team that will compete in the 2016 Buccaneer Invitational Swimming Championship from Oct. 22 to 24 at St. Mary’s International School in Tokyo, Japan.
Leading the way for the 25-man PSL team are Ilonggos Remogenes Sobretodo, John Rylle and Shyne Nicole Villagomeza, as well as Aklanons Lucio Cuyong II, and siblings Kyla and Kobe Soguilon.
“We are all set for this competition. The kids are motivated. Ilang lingo rin silang nag-training for this tournament and we’re ready to compete against some of the region’s best tankers,” said PSL president Susan Papa.
“Excited na ang mga bata lalo na ‘yung mga first timer sa international competition. Sending them abroad is part of our grassroots development program para mas mahasa pa sila dahil hindi basta-basta ang mga makakalaban nila dito,” Papa said.
This marks the second time this year that PSL swimmers will be competing in Japan after bagging 26 medals (13 gold, seven silver, and six bronze) in the 2016 Tokyo Winter Swimming Championship last February./PN
