ILOILO City – The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) Region 6 reminded subscribers anew that they have 60 days left to register their subscriber identity module (SIM).
Atty. Deo Virgil Tan, legal officer of NTC Region 6, said the implementation of Republic Act (RA) 11934, or the SIM Registration Act, will only be until July 25, or the end of the 90-day extension approved by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
“DICT has declared that no further extension will happen after the lapse of the said deadline,” Tan said in an interview with Panay News yesterday.
All unregistered SIMs will be automatically deactivated by July 26.
“Deactivated state” refers to the condition or status of a SIM that renders it incapable of being used for outgoing and incoming calls, internet access, or sending and receiving messages, except for exclusively enabling and informing such a SIM to be registered.
Currently, there are 97 million SIMs registered in the country, or more than 58 percent of the total 168,016,400 subscribers, according to Tan.
“Ang target ni Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) is that at least 70 percent of SIMs will be registered before the deadline,” said Tan.
Public telecommunication entities (PTEs) such as Smart, Globe and DITO continue to conduct facilitated SIM card registration at the barangay level.
SIM registration is also available at the branches or offices of PTEs.
PTEs also offer promotions like free mobile data and load to subscribers to encourage them to register SIMs.
Local government units (LGUs) that want assistance with SIM registration in their areas will be endorsed by NTC-6 to PTEs.
NTC’s Regional Office 6 is also open to assist walk-ins.

Tan reminded subscribers to provide the correct information when registering their SIM.
Those giving fictitious information will be penalized.
Under the implementing rules and regulations of RA 11934, the penalty of imprisonment ranging from six months to two years or a fine of not less than P100,000 but not more than P300,000, or both, shall be imposed upon anyone who provides false or fictitious information or who uses a fictitious identity or fraudulent identification documents to register a SIM.
Meanwhile, these are the valid government-issued identification (ID) cards or other similar forms of documents with a photo needed to verify the identity of the end-user: Passport, Philippine Identification Card, Social Security System, Government Service Insurance System e-card, driver’s license, National Bureau of Investigation clearance, police clearance, Firearms’ License to Own and Possess ID, Professional Regulation Commission ID, Integrated Bar of the Philippines ID, Overseas Workers Welfare Development ID, Bureau of Internal Revenue ID, Voters’ ID, and senior citizens’ ID, among others.
