60 stalls razed in Sibalom market fire

SAN JOSE DE BUENAVISTA, Antique – A fire gutted nearly 60 stalls at the Sibalom Municipal Public Market on Thursday evening.

Engineer Herbert Vedra, Sibalom municipal public market supervisor, said in an interview Friday that the fire destroyed 43 stalls at Building G, 13 stalls at B3, and four extension stalls. The market also houses computer and barber shops, and grocery.

“The Bureau of Fire Protection is investigating the cause of fire,” he said. No one was injured in the blaze.

“We are still going to have a meeting with the affected vendors so that we could really determine the amount of damage,” Vedra added.

Rodel Esler, municipal economic enterprise and development officer, said based on their partial report the damage amounted to P9.13 million.

This was based on the estimated cost of the damaged goods of the 32 vendors whose stalls were burned down.

Vedra said the fire was placed under control Friday morning. (PNA)
