ILOILO City – Another batch of drug surrenderers completed their four-week drug rehabilitation at the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6).

Sixty-seven out of 83 enrollees that started their rehabilitation on April 17 “graduated” and received their diplomas from Chief Superintendent Cezar Hawthorne Binag, acting PRO-6 director, on May 17.

This batch is the sixth since the PRO-6 started offering drug rehabilitation on October 2016. The regional police has so far helped 355 drug surrenderers, said Superintendent Gilbert Gorero, PRO-6 spokesperson.

Binag’s predecessor, Chief Superintendent Jose Gentiles, conceptualized the drug rehabilitation program after the launching of Oplan Double Barrel against illegal drugs July last year.

The program, facilitated by the Sobering Our Barangay and Empowering Recovery (SOBER) Intervention Team, is a community rehabilitation treatment designed by the Recovery Program Foundation, Inc. based in Cagayan de Oro City.

“We will not stop helping drug personalities willing to change for the better through our program. We are happy that many of them are willing to undergo rehabilitation,” said Gorero.

After graduation, an aftercare program awaits the clients, said Gorero.

This program includes skills and livelihood training. One of the agencies active in this scheme is the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority.

Binag said he would continue the drug rehabilitation program.

“It is really helpful to the drug surrenderers. This is part of our campaign against illegal drugs,” he said./PN
