68 PDLs in Aklan cast votes for BSKE

KALIBO, Aklan – Sixty-eight persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) were allowed to vote for the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (BSKE) in the province of Aklan.

According to the Commission on Elections (Comelec), PDLs with formal charges awaiting trial while in confinement or those who have been imprisoned for less than a year were eligible to cast their votes in the local polls.

In Aklan, 62 male and six female PDLs in the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) in Barangay Nalook in Kalibo exercised their rights.

Jail Inspector Rolyn Malolos said the electoral board prepared a special polling center inside the jail facility.

“The onsite voting of PDLS allowed them to vote. Ang registered voters ay mga PDLs na may ongoing trial cases. Karamihan sa mga kasong murder, homicide, rape and illegal drug cases,” he said.

Nine PDLs waived their rights to vote in off-site precincts, while 12 male PDLs aged below 30 also voted for candidates for Sangguniang Kabataan./PN
