BACOLOD City — The 69th Liberation of Negros will be celebrated today at the Provincial Capitol Lagoon here.
The annual event is a tribute to Negrenses who fought the Japanese during World War II.
This year’s theme is, “A Salute to the Unwavering Negrense Spirit of Gallantry and Courage.”
Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. will lead a wreath-laying ceremony at 7:45 a.m.
He will be accompanied by Colonel Jon Aying, commanding officer of the Philippine Army’s 303rd Infantry Brigade (303IB); Senior Superintendent Milko Lirazan, provincial police director; Vice Gov. Eugenio Lacson; Mayor Monico Puentevella; and Hannibal Lipardo, deputy vice president of the Veterans Federation of the Philippines Region 6.
The 303IB will also hold a 21-gun salute.
Marañon will distribute gift packs to the war veterans and their families, according to the provincial government’s Public Affairs Office.
He will also give P200,000 worth of medical assistance to the veterans./PN
