ILOILO City – Seven people were arrested on Sunday in Barangay Botong, Oton, Iloilo for illegal cockfighting.
The following – all residents of the town – face charges for violation of Presidential Decree 1602, the law prescribing stiffer penalties on illegal gambling: Marcelino Sipriano, 37, Jerryl Abadiano, 25, Rogelio Tamagos, 52, and Joel Paura, 52, of Barangay Botong; Ely Genioso, 65, and Romulo Ceballos, 47, of Barangay Batuan Ilawod; and James Labrador, 35, of Barangay Trapiche.
Police caught them engaged in a cockfight at 4 p.m.
Chief Inspector Gervinson Moyo, Oton police chief, said the event had no permit from the local government.
Five roosters, P560 worth of bet money and a timer were seized from the suspects, who were detained in the custodial facility of the Oton police station./PN
