MANILA – Seven out of 10 Filipinos favor buying condiments in recyclable containers than sachets, a commissioned survey of Social Weather Stations showed.
The survey, conducted on Sept. 27 to 30, reveal that 68 percent of adult Filipinos are willing to buy food condiments such as oil and soy sauce in recyclable or refillable containers.
Forty-two percent meanwhile favor buying personal care products such as shampoo and conditioner, and liquid household cleaning products in recyclable containers, 29 percent are willing to buy powdered drinks such as juice and coffee in such containers, and 27 percent said they would buy powdered cleaning products in recyclable vessels.
The survey used face-to-face interviews of 1,800 adults nationwide and has a +/-2.3 percent margin of error for national percentages.
The survey was sponsored by non-governmental organization Global Alliance for Incinerator Alternatives and the results of which were first presented on Jan. 21, SWS said.
The same organization reported in 2019 that the Philippines uses a “shocking” amount of single-use plastic, including nearly 60 billion sachets a year. (ABS-CBN News)
