7 San Jose villages locked down

SAN JOSE, Antique – Seven barangays here are on lockdown for 14 days due to their rising cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

It started on May 30.

“Residents of these barangays are strongly advised to stay home except during unavoidable transactions or emergencies, and when going out for COVID-19 vaccination purposes,” according to Mayor Elmer Untaran.

The seven barangays are the following:

* Atabay (six cases)

* 2 (seven cases)

* 8 (10 cases)

* Badiang (11 cases)

* Funda-Dalipe (nine cases)

* San Fernando (six cases)

* San Pedro (10 cases)

“All (residents) are encouraged to strictly follow health protocols such as proper hand washing, proper wearing of facemask and face shields or clear glasses, and maintaining physical distancing,” said Untaran.

In the past several days, San Jose recorded “a significant number” of COVID-19 positive cases, he pointed out.

“Despite our concerted efforts, the rising numbers are still alarming. The virus is continuously spreading, thus we urge everyone to do his/her share in protecting our community,” according to Untaran.

He advised residents to limit mobility to essential transactions, only.

“Moreover, you are strongly discouraged to attend social gatherings, or avoid convergence in public places such as fiestas, birthdays, weddings, baptisms, reunions, and funerals,” stressed Untaran.

He also encouraged those in the priority list for vaccination to get the jab.

“Our vaccination program is ongoing, prioritizing the inoculation of health workers, frontliners, senior citizens and persons with comorbidities. The remaining general population will be advised of their schedule for vaccination,” the mayor said.

As of May 30, San Jose’s cumulative COVID-19 cases hit 545 – 81 active, 442 recovered and 22 dead./PN
