BACOLOD City – Seven barangays in Valladolid, Negros Occidental — Paloma, Bayabas, Guintorilan, Doldol, Batuan, Alijis, and Ayungon — have been declared “drug-cleared” on Thursday.

Police officers in the town held a ceremony for the declaration at the Municipal Social Hall.

Valladolid was the first among 19 towns in Negros Occidental to declare several of its villages drug-cleared, said Senior Inspector Junji Liba, municipal police head.

An oversight committee headed by Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) regional director Roselyn Borja approved of the declaration, Liba said.

Liba joined Mayor Enrique R. Miravalles and several other officials in signing a certificate for the drug-cleared barangays.

Others present were Superintendent Jeoristy Coronica, deputy provincial police director for administration, representatives from the Interior department and the PDEA, some Sangguniang Bayan members, department heads and Liga ng mga Barangay officials.

Valladolid has 16 barangays, Liba said.

A barangay may be declared drug-cleared if it complies with requisites under the Dangerous Drugs Board Regulation No. 3 series of 2017.

Among the requirements are screening of drug personalities through the Municipal Health Office and drug testing, Liba said.

Meanwhile Miravalles thanked the chairpersons and residents of the drug-cleared villages for cooperating in the antidrug campaign. He promised to work for a similar declaration in the remaining barangays./PN
