70 hired on the spot at Labor Day job fair

Jobseekers from all over the region are seen joining the 116th Labor Day Celebration Jobs and Livelihood Fair held at Marymart Mall in Iloilo City on May 1, 2018. Around 1,068 jobseekers participated in the job fair, braving the long lines and the blistering heat. Their efforts paid off as a total of 1,304 jobseekers, or 122 percent of the registered applicants were considered as qualified. DOLE REGION 6

ILOILO City – Seventy applicants were hired on the spot at the Labor Day job fair of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) in this city on May 1.

A total of 1,068 applicants showed up at the job fair held at Marymart Center, according to DOLE assistant regional director Salome Siaton.

The 70 lucky applicants were hired by local companies.

None were hired on the spot for jobs overseas. Applicants were asked to submitted more requirements and undergo interview by the hiring companies, explained Siaton.

The job fair made available between 16,000 to 17,000 job vacancies in (1,651 for local employment; 1,472 for business process outsourcing; and 13,369 for overseas jobs).

Twelve business process outsourcing companies participated; 42 local companies; and 11 overseas recruitment agencies.

Other Labor Day-related activities organized by DOLE-6 were the following:

* zumba (May 1), Marymart activity center

* Livelihood Fair (May 2), Terraza and McDo Hallway, Marymart Center./PN
