DESPITE the unprecedented pandemic, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Region 6 continued to soldier on in accelerating the development of Science and Technology human resources in the country by administering scholarship grants.
Recently, the DOST-Science Education Institute (SEI) announced that Western Visayas had 71 qualifiers in Western Visayas for the 2020 Junior Level Science Scholarship (JLSS). From the total qualifiers, 31 were guaranteed the scholarship grant, 17 were with lacking documents. Some 23 applicants were considered potential qualifiers.
Qualifiers with lacking documents are still pending for completion of requirements but assured with a slot.
Meanwhile, potential qualifiers should submit the lacking documents, which must be sent to SEI for validation. If the documents or information validated render them eligible for the JLSS, the potential qualifier will be issued with a notice of award and subsequently be scheduled for the Orientation and Signing of the Scholarship Agreement. Otherwise, the potential qualifier will be issued a Notice of Disqualification.
The applicants underwent eligibility screenings using the JLSS E-Scholarship Application System, where documentary requirements, including grades for the first two years of college, were scrutinized. Data analytics was employed to determine applicants.
All qualifiers and their parent or guardian must attend the virtual orientation and signing of the Scholarship Agreement on August 25 at one in the afternoon.
Qualifiers who availed of the program will enjoy two years of scholarship benefits, including tuition subsidy, monthly stipend, book allowance, and others.
The effectivity of the scholarship award is in the first semester of Academic Year 2020-2021. This means scholars will receive financial assistance for the previous months retroactively.(DOST-6)
