JORDAN, Guimaras – A total of 724 Barangay Health Workers (BHWs) each received P3,000 cash incentive from the Guimaras provincial government.
“Yearly ini namon nga ginahimu,” said Vice Gov. John Edward Gando.
The BHWs were from the towns of Jordan, Buenavista, Nueva Valencia, Sibunag, and San Lorenzo.
The incentive was released on Dec. 15. Gando, Gov. Samuel Gumarin and Cong. Ma. Lucille Nava led the distribution per town.
Gando said the provincial government recognized the hard work and crucial role of BHWS in ensuring that Guimarasnons’ health concerns were being addressed.
The BHWs’ importance was all the more highlighted by the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. They helped barangay officials monitor most especially returning residents.
As of Dec. 26, Guimaras’ COVID-19 cases reached 244 (cumulative figures since March), with 231 have recovered and four casualties – leaving the island province with nine active cases left./PN
