737 WV athletes, coaches to join Palarong Pambansa 2024

KALIBO, Aklan – Western Visayas will send 737 athletes, coaches, assistant coaches, and chaperones to the 64th Palarong Pambansa in Cebu City next month.

The Department of Education (DepEd) in partnership with the local government of Cebu City will host the multi-sports event from July 6 to 17 with the theme “Beyond Sports.”

The best elementary and high school student-athletes coming from Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Guimaras, Iloilo, and Negros Occidental are competing in racket games, measurable sports, team sports, combative sports, demonstration sports, paragames, and other sports at various venues in Metro Cebu.

Medals are at stake in arnis, athletics, badminton, gymnastics, sepak takraw, softball, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, tennis, volleyball, dance sports, archery, baseball, basketball, chess, football, billiards, boxing, basketball 3×3, futsal, wrestling, wushu, pencak silat, and paragames.

The billeting quarters of Western Visayas delegation including 190 management and non-officiating officials will be at Guadalupe Elementary School in V. Rama Avenue in Cebu City.

DepEd said around 12,000 athletes from 17 regional athletic associations, delegates from the National Academy of Sports and Filipino athletes enrolled in recognized schools overseas under the banner of Philippine Schools Overseas will participate in this year’s Palarong Pambansa.   

The opening ceremonies will take place on July 9 at the Cebu City Sports Center./PN
