CEBU City – Some 74 drug personalities in Central Visayas have surrendered since the Philippine National Police resumed “Oplan Tokhang” on Jan. 29.

Police Regional Office 7 (PRO-7) head Chief Superintendent Robert Quenery said on Friday that this was the result of their five-day operation in the different cities and provinces in Central Visayas.

Quenery said they have so far conducted 142 antidrug operations in the region, mostly in Cebu province including in the cities of Cebu, Lapu-Lapu and Mandaue.

Of the 74 surrenderees, Quenery said 21 are newly-identified drug personalities. They have been warned and advised not to go back into selling or using prohibited substances.

Quenery said the surrenderees will be constantly monitored to make sure that they won’t backslide. They were also encouraged to live a better life.

Quenery also said no unnecessary deaths occurred during their operations and no complaints from the families of surrenderees were raised against the police.

Oplan Tokhang is now conducted with the presence of barangay officials, members of the media, and representatives of other government agencies concerned, especially from the Commission on Human Rights. (PNA/PN)
