ILOILO City – Eight establishments in this city are under investigation for alleged violation of the product standards law of the Philippines.
The investigation is being conducted by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) through its Fair Trade Enforcement Bureau (FTEB), a Manila-based composite team.
DTI-Iloilo provincial director Diosdado Cadena Jr. did not reveal the names of the violating establishments but said these were mostly dealers of construction materials.
He said these establishments were suspected of having violated the product standards law due to lack of product standards markings and license on the goods they sell.
Cadena said the FTEB has released summons to the establishments.
“They will submit their answers to the adjudication officer. After that, in 10 to 15 days, we will already know the judgment whether they are guilty or not for their alleged violation and also their penalties. But it is still subject for appeal or motion for reconsideration,” said Cadena.
Cadena said the penalty would depend on the gravity of the offense.
Previously, seven establishments were penalized for violating the product standard law. The minimum penalty to an erring establishment was P17,500.
Cadena added that a forum would be conducted to brief the stakeholders on product standards law.
It aims to update stakeholders on latest regulations passed by DTI on product standards. (PNA)
