
BACOLOD City – Negros Occidental’s Provincial Administrator Rayfrando Diaz confirmed yesterday morning that eight employees of the provincial government tested positive for illegal drug use.
The provincial government ordered drug tests for capitol officials and employees on Dec. 11 and 12.
According to Diaz, seven tested positive for shabu or methamphetamine while one tested positive for marijuana.
Twenty others were tagged as “grey” and will undergo confirmatory drug testing alongside the eight positive employees.
Diaz refused to identify the employees in question.
He further said regular employees who test positive for the use of illegal drugs will face administrative charges.
On the part of job order and contract of service workers who yield positive results, Diaz said their contracts will not be renewed.
A total of 2,300 from the 3,000 employees of the provincial capitol underwent drug testing.
Another drug testing will be conducted on Friday, Dec. 15, for employees of provincial government-run hospitals. (Watchmen Daily Journal)/PN
