ILOILO – The entire eight-man police team assigned in Sicogon Island, Carles town has been relieved.
According to Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO) director, Senior Supt. Cornelio Salinas, the team failed to respond immediately to an indiscriminate firing incident and thus failed to apprehend the culprit.
The relieved team was sent back to the IPPO’s maneuver platoon based in Sara town and replaced by another team of policemen.
Salinas also summoned the barangay captains in the island and reminded them of their responsibilities in maintaining peace and order in the island.
Sicogon Island, which is up for redevelopment by Sicogon Development Corp. (SIDECO) and Ayala Land, Inc., consists of three barangays – Buaya, San Fernando and Alipata.
Salinas said IPPO targets zero crime incident in the island.
He asked his personnel to “map” the entire island, including the area detailed with SIDECO security force.
Some quarters in Sicogon are against the island’s redevelopment for fear of being displaced.
Salinas appealed to all parties to avoid confrontation./PN
