ILOILO City – Eight soldiers and a civilian were injured when a trailer truck ploughed an eatery outside the military camp in Jamindan, Capiz.
Privates First Class Irene Alvañez, 23; Richard Gomrez, 22; Shajane Frias, 27; Arlene Venerable; Christopher Esconial, 26; and Ronnie Montalbo; Major Mario Hidalgo; Sergeant Loema Quiros; and eatery owner Floretino Guindap were hurt.
Montalbo, who was driving the trailer truck, lost control of the vehicle, causing it to hit the electric post and ram the eatery where Hidalgo was eating lunch, said Senior Inspector Bryant Fallera, Jamindan police chief.
All victims were taken to a hospital in Iloilo City.
Except Hidalgo, the soldiers were members of the Engineering Department of the Philippine Army’s 3rd Infantry Division based in Camp Macario Peralta in Barangay Lopez Jaena Norte, Jamindan. They were headed for work at the time.
The incident happened around 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 28.
The truck also hit seven motorcycles and two houses owned by Roland Gardose and Sally Latigo./PN
