8 theft suspects collared in Boracay

BORACAY – Police authorities apprehended a theft suspect and seven more in an apartment burglary in Boracay Island on Tuesday, April 2.

According to the Malay police, the victim is a 44-year-old woman and a resident of Barangay Toledo in the municipality of Nabas.

The suspects were identified as Nestor Parreño, 25, Tyron Paul Diopita, 25, Ken Ian Tamaño, 24, Claito Vital, 24, John Bryan Mendez, 23, and Clied Justine Anatan, 19, all from Iloilo City; Jeremy Mondia, 21, from Binggawan, Iloilo; and John Chris Jaleco, 20, from Leganes, Iloilo.

The Malay police received a call regarding the theft incident at Bulabog Beach.

Before the police arrived at the scene, the suspects had already fled with the stolen cellphone. The police attempted to locate the cellphone and discovered it was at Cagban Jetty Port.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Mar Joseph Ravelo, chief of Malay police, they immediately coordinated with Community Precinct 1 at Cagban Jetty Port and temporarily held the maritime vessel where the said cellphone was tracked.

He further said that since the suspects were hiding among the group of passengers, they called the victim’s cell phone, leading to its discovery.

Upon frisking, three more units of stolen cell phones were recovered from the suspect’s possession./PN
