BACOLOD City – Around 800 more hog raisers in Negros Occidental affected by the African swine fever (ASF) and other hog diseases last year will receive financial assistance from the provincial government.
The distribution of P2,000 cash aid to each beneficiary from the towns of Hinigaran, San Enrique and Valladolid will be on Feb. 13.
Chiqui Gonzales, officer-in-charge of the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO), said 196 hog raisers from Victorias City and 200 from Ilog town are also set to receive cash assistance.
The provincial government has allocated P10 million for financial assistance to a total of 5,000 hog raisers.
It also provided other forms of assistance to alleviate the challenges faced by hog raisers and boost the supply of hogs in the province, Gonzales added.
Negros Occidental, which has a P6-billion swine industry, recorded almost 18,000 hog mortalities in some 20 towns and component cities since April 2023 due to various diseases, such as ASF and hog cholera. (Watchmen Daily Journal)/PN
