ILOILO City – Western Visayas is sending a total of 813 delegates to the Palarong Pambansa in Marikina City from July 29 to Aug. 5.
They are composed of 539 athletes, 131 coaches, assistant coaches and chaperons, and 143 technical working group members, according to Department of Education (DepEd) Region 6 information officer Hernani Escullar Jr.
“Ready na gid sila. Since nag-end ang WVRAA (Western Visayas Regional Athletics Association) meet sa Aklan and pre-qualifying in Cebu, nagsige-sige ang ila training,” said Escullar.
The region’s delegates will leave for Palarong Pambansa on Sunday, July 23.
Escullar said all the needs of the delegates have already been prepared for from transportation, billeting and food.
The region’s target this year is to get the championship crown by winning the most number of gold medals for various sport events.
Pre-pandemic Palarong Pambansa, the region ranked third next to the National Capital Region and Region 4A. It garnered 49 gold, 40 silver and 58 bronze medals.
Meantime, Western Visayas also aims to surpass its own record last 2019 Palarong Pambansa in these sport events: long jump (secondary girls), shot put (secondary girls), 3,000 meters steeple chase (secondary boys), 1,500 meters (secondary boys), javelin throw (elementary girls), and swimming (200 LC meter freestyle, elementary girls)./PN
