AKLAN – Of this province’s population eligible for vaccination against coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), 81.72 percent already received their first dose as of Dec. 27, data from the Department of Health (DOH) Region 6 showed.
The percentage is equivalent to 349,473 individuals.
About 253,781 Aklanons (59.34 percent) were also fully vaccinated, while 78,191 individuals remained unvaccinated.
Amid the threats of new COVID-19 virus variants, mobile vaccination teams have been deployed to bring the vaccines to remote communities.
In a similar move, a mass vaccination campaign to get life-saving jabs is also rolling out across the province.
Aklan has the lowest healthcare utilization rate in Western Visayas at 1.47 percent; the province is thus considered a low-risk area.
Of the 136 available COVID-19 ward and intensive care beds, only two beds were utilized in the province. This takes the confirmed COVID-19 cases to 12,661, as per Aklan Provincial Epidemiological and Surveillance Unit.
The average daily attack rate per 100,000 population is at 0.05 percent, while the province registered negative two-week growth rate on cases at 78 percent./PN
