ILOILO City – Eighty-three of the 1,975 drug-affected barangays in Western have been cleared of illegal drugs, according to the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6).
Superintendent Gilbert Gorero, spokesperson of the PRO-6, said the drug-cleared barangays underwent a three-phase process as stipulated in the circular that created the Barangay Drug Clearing Operation.
In a barangay that is declared “drug-cleared”, there are:
* no more illegal drugs available
* no transit / transshipment activities
* no clandestine drug laboratories, warehouses and/or chemical warehouses;
* no marijuana cultivation sites, and
* no drug dens.
Gorero said the drug-cleared barangays included 58 from Aklan, 23 from Capiz and two from Guimaras.
The synchronized barangay drug clearing operation started on Aug. 30, 2016.
Of the 3,389 barangays in Western Visayas, three were seriously affected by illegal drugs, 89 were moderately affected and 1,883 were slightly affected.
“PRO-6 will continue its drug clearing operations with the help of other law enforcement agencies, local government units and other government agencies until all barangays in Western Visayas are cleared of illegal drugs,” said Gorero. (PNA)
