ILOILO City – A total of 83,650 students from 275 schools nationwide benefited from this year’s “Balik Eswkela” project of the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP).
“Balik Eskwela” project is an initiative of NGCP to inspire underprivileged pupils to do well with their studies by giving them school supplies.
Each beneficiary received a bag containing ten notebooks and pencils.
According to NGCP Head of Corporate Affairs Nelson Cabangon, they intend to increase the coverage of the project every year as they coordinate with school officials to assist in identifying other needs of each institution.
This year, NGCP has distributed school bags to pupils in far-flung villages of the country from Isabela in the North, to Lanao del Norte in the South.
NGCP gives priorities to their host communities as a way of giving back for safeguarding and protecting their transmission lines and facilities.
“Most of the beneficiaries of our projects are our host communities to ensure the economic and social development of our partners. Aside from the distribution of school bags, we also turned over school classrooms and sanitation facilities, all in support of our schoolchildren,” said Cabangon.
NGCP started “Balik Eskwela” project in 2013 as part of its Social Corporate Responsibility drafted from its mission of supporting communities hosting its transmission considered as its true partner in nation-building./PN
