GUIMARAS – The province of Guimaras listed 84 active cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) as of January 21.
The 84 active cases were from five towns such as Buenavista – 32, Jordan – 17, San Lorenzo -17, Nueva Valencia – 12, and Sibunag -6.
The 73 cases are locally transmitted, nine were the returning residents, one is the Authorized Person Outside Residence (APOR) and one is the returning overseas Filipino worker.
Last January 21, the province listed 16 new cases of COVID-19, and the second-highest positive cases listed in Guimaras for the year 2022. Four came from Buenavista, five Jordan, four Nueva Valencia, and three San Lorenzo.
The highest active cases were listed last January 20 with a total of 17 positive cases. Because of this Guimaras province has a total of 3,284 confirmed cases, 84 are active cases, 3,035 have recovered and 166 died.
The provincial government of Guimaras with the leadership of Governor Samuel Gumarin, encourages Guimarasnon to follow the basic health protocol especially on wearing a mask, hand washing and observing social distancing. It also encourages people to stay at home as much as possible.
To recall, Gumarin issued an order that only fully vaccinated individuals can enter and be allowed to travel outside Guimaras.
To ensure compliance, the provincial governments station some staff at Parola Wharf to check vaccination cards or certificates to travelers that are going in and out the Island.
The governor aims to protect Guimarasnon and to help lower the active cases in Region 6./PN
