ILOILO City – Nine barangays in this city were deemed “critical areas” and placed under tight watch following a surge in coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases.
These villages recorded COVID-19 infections almost every day from Oct. 1 to Oct. 11, according to the City Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (CESU) of the City Health Office.
They were barangays North San Jose, Calumpang and North Fundidor in Molo district; Bo. Obrero in Lapuz; Baldoza in La Paz; San Isidro, Tabuc Suba, Cubay, and Balabago in Jaro.
Meanwhile, 61 new COVID-19 cases were recorded in 38 barangays in the metro’s seven districts on Oct. 11.
These barangays were Habog-Habog Salvacion, Bo. Obrero, Jereos, San Jose, Calaparan, Sto. Niño Norte in Arevalo; Baldoza, Concepcion, Dulonan, Mansaya, North San Jose, Rima Rizal, Rizal Ibarra, San Antonio, San Isidro, Tabuc Suba, Railway, Lopez Jaena Norte, Ingore, Javellana, Aguinaldo in La Paz; PHHC Blk 17, Guzman-Jesena, Airport in Mandurriao; Ungka, Tabuc Suba, Lanit, Simon Ledesma, Sambag Cubay, Bitoon in Jaro; Don Esteban in Lapuz; South Baluarte, South Fundidor, East Baluarte, East Timawa in Molo district; and Monica Blumentritt in City Proper.
Of the 61 cases, 26 were employees of the city hall – bringing to 220 the total number of infections in the city government as of Oct. 12.
“Ang pagsaka sang kaso sa siyudad, nagapahanumdom sa aton sang risgo sang virus. Ginapangabay gid namon ang padayon nga paghalong sang tanan,” said Mayor Jerry Treñas.
Based on the Oct. 11 data of the CESU, Iloilo City has 574 active COVID-19 cases, 1,580 recoveries and 61 deaths.
COVID-19 is the infectious disease caused by the most recently discovered coronavirus. This new virus and disease were unknown before the outbreak began in Wuhan, China in December 2019.
The most common symptoms of COVID-19 are fever, tiredness, and dry cough.
Some patients may have aches and pains, nasal congestion, runny nose, sore throat or diarrhea. These symptoms are usually mild and begin gradually. Some people become infected but don’t develop any symptoms and don’t feel unwell./PN
