BACOLOD City – The cholera cases in this city increased to 19, as of Sept. 30, 2022, data from the City Health Office (CHO) showed.
Barangay Singcang had the highest number of cholera cases at seven, followed by barangays 35 and Sum-ag with two each; and barangays 30, Felisa, Granada, Handumanan, Mansilingan, Tangub, Villamonte, and Vista Alegre with one case each.
Meanwhile, 95 out of 204 water refilling stations in this city have no permits as per CHO inspection.
The CHO recommended their closure to the Business Permits and Licensing Office and City Legal Office until their compliance of the regulatory requirements.
Councilor Em Ang conducted a public hearing on Oct. 4 in relation to the proposed ordinance establishing the Bacolod drinking water quality and safety monitoring committee that she authored.
The city has been on an alert for cholera after it documented one confirmed case on Sept. 16.
Dr. Grace Tan, chief of the CHO Environment Sanitation Division, said the case was a 37-year-old female confined at the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital due to severe dehydration caused by several episodes of watery stool and vomiting.
She was later discharged from the hospital, Tan added./PN
