ILOILO – In a significant milestone for Western Visayas, 96.49% of its population – or 6,116,543 individuals – has received their PhilIDs or National IDs, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).
The region has a population of 7,954,723.
PSA regional director Nelida Amolar said Negros Occidental has the highest number of PhilID holders at 2,434,359 individuals, followed by Iloilo (1,913,374), Capiz (661,171), Antique (306,451), Aklan (142,185), and Guimaras (65,889).
The National ID system aims to provide a unique and reliable identification for every Filipino citizen, enhancing government services, and facilitating easier transactions.
The National ID implementation is part of the government’s efforts to streamline and digitize public services, making them more accessible, efficient, and secure for all Filipinos.
With the PhilID, individuals will have a single identification card that can be used for various transactions, such as applying for government services, opening bank accounts, access to healthcare, and voting in elections.
The PhilID also serves as a valid proof of identity and citizenship, eliminating the need to carry multiple identification cards. It contains essential information such as full name, sex, birth date, blood type, address, and a unique identification number./PN
