KALIBO, Aklan – Senior Superintendent Lope Manlapaz was tapped to step up the campaign against illegal drugs and illegal gambling in Aklan.
Manlapaz assumed the post as acting provincial police director on March 20.
Manlapaz said Chief Superintendent Jose Gentiles had marching orders for him to crack down on not only drugs and gambling but also wanted persons.
“We have no plan to reshuffle the unit commandeers (yet),” said the former regional police division head. “Maybe after we review their accomplishments, we could initiate changes or transfer police personnel to other units.”
It is Manlapaz’s first time to lead a provincial police unit.
Prior to this, he was the head of the Police Regional Office 6’s Logistics and Research Development Division.
A former municipal police chief of Guimbal, Iloilo, Manlapaz has a master’s degree in public administration, which he earned from the University of Iloilo in 2008.
His predecessor, Senior Superintendent John Mitchell Jamili, was assigned to the Philippine National Police Maritime Group.
Manlapaz will be in an acting capacity until Gov. Florencio Miraflores chooses a permanent provincial police director, according to Superintendent Gilbert Gorero, regional police spokesperson.
Meanwhile Superintendent John Limuel Villafranca will be the “caretaker” of the Logistics and Research Development Division. (With Aklan Forum Journal/PN)
