BACOLOD City – Two more flyover projects will be built in this city.
One will be on CL Montelibano, Barangay Montevista, while another will be on Burgos Street, Barangay Villamonte, said Engineer Abraham Villareal, head of Department of Public Works and Highways’ Bacolod City District Engineering Office.
Preparations for the installation of the CL Montelibano flyover will be funded with P50 million. The amount will be released this year, Villareal said.
A representative from the Spanish government, meanwhile, gave a “thumbs-up” sign about the Burgos flyover, said the engineer.
During the Puentevella administration, a flyover was supposed to be built at the Burgos Street-Circumferential Road intersection but was cancelled due to the opposition of establishments in the vicinity.
According to Villareal, the Spanish government assured that that planned Burgos flyover will not affect that many businesses.
Construction work for the flyover project at the Araneta Avenue-Magsaysay Street intersection starts Monday next week.
Public Works and traffic authorities warned of vehicular congestion.
Rep. Greg Gasataya on Friday appealed to the public for understanding.
Two inner lanes will be used during the construction, while the two outer lanes along Araneta Avenue shall remain open to traffic “but possible traffic problems may occur,” Assistant District Engineer Leah Jamero earlier said.
Gasataya said the P367-million Araneta-Magsaysay flyover is expected to be completed within eight months, or by November, but they hope to inaugurate it in time for the MassKara Festival in October.
He thanked President Rodrigo Duterte and Public Works secretary Mark Villar for helping provide projects that help improve traffic flow./PN
