ILOILO City – A farmer repeatedly stabbed to death his wife in Barangay Agcuyawan Calsada, Barotac Nuevo, Iloilo shortly after he went home drunk on Saturday night.
Carlos Valdez, 40, surrendered to the police three hours after attacking wife Ligaya, 37.
The stabbing happened around 9:30 p.m. Ligaya confronted Valdez about his frequent going home late at night and drunk, according to Chief Inspector Raymond Celoso, Barotac Nuevo police chief.
The heated argument led to the stabbing.
Valdez used a knife eight inches long.
Ligaya died of six stab wounds on the neck, chest and back at the town’s district hospital.
According to neighbors, the couple often fought at night, especially if Valdez went home drunk.
“Perhaps the husband could no longer contain his emotions,” said Celoso.
A parricide case will be filed against the suspect, he added.
Valdez was detained at the lockup cell of the Barotac Nuevo police station./PN
