MANILA — The government will thoroughly study the proposal to implement daylight saving time (DST) in the country as a possible means to conserve energy in preparation for the power shortage in Luzon next year.

Presidential Communications Operations Office secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. said the Department of Energy (DOE) will look into the proposal’s impact on workers, students and the rest of the country.

“This will be given a thorough study,” Coloma said in a Palace press briefing.

In House Resolution 1334, Deputy Minority Leader Arnel Ty proposed the time change from November 2014 to January 2015 and then from March to June 2015.

Under DST, clocks are advanced by an hour during summer months to take advantage of the daylight hours to save energy.

The daylight time was last implemented in the country during the administration of President Fidel Ramos as an energy conservation measure./PN
