BACOLOD City – A theft suspect mauled in Barangay 35 before dawn on Friday died hours later at the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital.
The 49-year-old Rodney Lumangyao of Barangay Handumanan complained of difficulty of breathing minutes after he was brought to Police Station 1 following his arrest.
He later lost consciousness so he was taken to the hospital, said Senior Inspector Eugene Tolentino, Police Station 1 chief.
Lumangyao was spotted on the roof of a house in Barangay 35 and was mauled by neighborhood residents. He died at the hospital around 8:40 a.m.
It was the barangay tanods that turned over Lumangyao to the police after the theft suspect was beaten up.
Relatives of Lumangyao said the barangay tanods mauled him, too./PN
