WV retains Palaro secondary softball

STA. CRUZ, Laguna – Western Visayas retained its secondary softball title and reclaimed the elementary title at the 2014 Palarong Pambansa here.

The many times Palarong Pambansa champion from Domingo Lacson National High School clobbered National Capital Region, 7-2.

Meanwhile, the region’s elementary softball team blanked host region, 7-3 for the title.

The elementary team lost the title last year in Dumaguete City.

In volleyball, Western Visayas also reclaimed the secondary girls’ title it won in the 2011 Palaro in Lingayen, Pangasinan.

However, Region 6’s defending champion in elementary girls lost to host region, CALABARZON in the crucial semifinal, 25-13, 16-25 and 25-18.

In the overall medal tally, Western Visayas placed third with 32 gold, 33 silver and 38 bronze medals, topped by the National Capital Region with 107 gold, 64 silver and 56 bronze medals.

Host CALABARZON was first runner-up with 38 gold, 51 silver and 51 bronze medals./PN
