THIRTY-SIX straight years in the field of print journalism. This is no small feat, and we are in high spirits. In our own humble way, we have played our role in making democracy in this country – to borrow a phrase from Lapsus – “alive and kicking.”
Words are inadequate to express our deepest gratitude to the reading public and business partners that have always supported us. Together, we have gone a long way telling your stories and making us your trusted newspaper. We see this partnership going further. Your stories matter to us.
When our founders started this paper nearly four decades half ago, they were faced and daunting logistical challenges. Yes, there were many obstacles along the way and we have lost count of them. Still, we have triumphantly overcome them with a firm resolve that your favorite regional daily will continue to improve its performance and quality, our online presence and content.
Through sheer determination and fondness for innovation, here we are – the biggest regional daily reaching out even outside Western Visayas. And with a better corporate system we continue to expand our operation and outrace what have been accomplished these past years.
Looking back after many years of painful sacrifices, we have come of age, served the best interest of the reading public, and particularly made the Ilonggos proud of themselves – that they have a courageous newspaper, a democratic ingredient of a free press.
We doff our hats to our untiring staff, our advertisers, to the newspaper dealers spreading this popular and most often controversial newspaper – even to our critics and to the enemies of press freedom because, in the words of our founder Danny Fajardo, “without them, this challenging job would not have been more exciting and agitating.”
Thank you for joining us in this 36th anniversary!
