“THE STATE recognizes the sanctity of family life and shall protect and strengthen the family as a basic autonomous social institution…” (Philippine Constitution, State Policies, Section 12)
“The family being the foundation of the nation is a basic social institution which public policy cherishes and protects. Consequently, family relations are governed by law and no custom, practice or agreement destructive of the family shall be recognized or given effect.” (Family Code of the Philippines, Title V, Chap. 1, Art. 149)
“Family relations include those between husband and wife, between parents and children…” (Idem, Article 150)
In addition, Title 1, Chapter 1, Article 1 of the same Family Code provides that “marriage is a special contract of permanent union between a man and a woman entered into in accordance with law for the establishment of conjugal and family life.”
After but reading and understanding the above-cited rather plain and simple provisions of the Constitution of the Philippines plus the Family Code of the Philippines, it is a wonder that some quarters in the legislature continue to support and promote the Divorce Bill. It is not enough that it already manages to have the Population Control Law passed under the cryptic and deceptive title of “Reproductive Health Law.”
When someone does not know the difference between what is right or wrong, the distinction between what is moral or amoral, something is definitely wrong with his thinking process, his ethical posture. Even but simpletons know well that marriage is between a man and a woman, and that marriage is for keeps – such as clearly and categorically provided by no less than both the Philippine Constitution and the Family Code of the Philippines.
But then, the individual concerned with his much attended to and well-cared for allies would have no qualm of conscience to institutionalize Divorce and Same Sex Marriage in the Philippines.
Hence, if the legislators are against the passage of a Divorce Law and a Same Sex Marriage Law in the country, no problem: Use the quasi-infinite budget! Hence, if Divorce and Same Sex Marriage are directly against not only the Family Code of the Philippines but also the Constitution of the Philippines itself, no problem either. Change their contrary provisions. This is egoism incarnate. This is amorality par excellence./PN
