ILOILO City – Police are investigating three barangay captains for possible involvement in the illegal drug trade.
All of them are related to suspected high-profile drug personalities, according to the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO).
“We mentioned these three names…kay open naman sa public nga may mga himatâ sila nga involved sa illegal drugs,” said Senior Superintendent Remus Zacharias Canieso, ICPO director. “They are now under investigation.”
The village chiefs are:
* Remia Prevendido Gregori of Barangay Bakhaw, Mandurriao district – sister of suspected drug lord Richard Prevendido
* Keith “Dabing” Espinosa of Barangay Monica-Blumentritt, City Proper – wife of Jesus “Jingjing” Espinosa
* Noemi Hablo of Barangay Desamparados, Jaro – wife of Rasty Jablo.
Prevendido remains at large. A P1-million reward awaits anyone who could provide information that will lead to his capture.
Jesus “Jingjing” Espinosa is incarcerated at the Iloilo District Jail in Barangay Nanga, Pototan, Iloilo.
He is a suspected subgroup leader of slain suspected drug lord Melvin Odicta.
Rasty Jablo was a suspected drug pusher who took a child hostage in General Santos City and committed suicide in his detention cell there.
Police said Jablo took the child hostage to get media attention and reveal that his brother Carcar was killed by “the drug lord Prevendido.”
The ICPO is expected to reveal more names after further validation.
“I have the names of barangay officials protecting drug pushers but [are] still subject to validation and investigation,” Canieso told Panay News.
Criminal and administrative charges may be slapped against village officials proven to be engaged in the drug trade, he said./PN
